June 11, 1986: Chesley Bonestell dies

Born in 1888, the artist and illustrator Chesley Bonestell became famous for his realistic space paintings. His work has gone through decades and many formats and publications; Perhaps the most influential was his collaboration with Wernher von Brain on 1952-1954 Collier’s Series, “man will conquer the space soon!” By making the science fiction stuff seem to be achievable, his work of art has contributed to the way to the American space program.
