12 June 2021: Seiji Ueda discovers Nova Herculis 2021

On June 12, 2021, Nova Herculis 2021 (V1674 Herculis) broke out and was discovered by the Seiji Ueda amateur astronomer of Japan. The white dwarf became quickly visible to the naked eye, climbing 10,000 times brighter than it was originally. His speed was unprecedented: V1674 Herculis has vanished from that peak of brightness in just over a day, making it the faster Nova never recorded. The researchers continue to study that speed, as well as the unusual “oscillation” – a light button every 501 seconds – V1674 Herculis shown.
